Bears extend Jay Cutler's contract 10/20/2009 7:33:00 PM
The Bears have signed quarterback Jay Cutler to a two-year contract extension.
Cutler, who the Bears picked up from Denver in a trade this off-season, had a contract that ran through 2011. Now he will remain with the Bears through 2013, and likely beyond.
Cutler has guided the Bears to three victories and is coming off a 300-yard pass game against Atlanta.
The NFL Network reported the deal includes about $20 million guaranteed and roughly $30 million in potential new earnings beyond the present contract.

The Bears' new quarterback displayed his strong arm on some throws but appeared a little hesitant on others. Cutler went three-and-out on his first drive, threw an interception on his second and nearly had an underthrown pass picked off on his third. He finished 5-of-10 passing for 64 yards.

One of the Chicago sports-talk radio stations reported that new Bears QB Jay Cutler took it upon himself to reach out to recently released Giants WR Plaxico Burress about his possible interest in playing in the Windy City. There was no mention, however, whether Cutler made the inquiry with the blessings of the Bears' front office.

Cutler, 25, is coming off a Pro Bowl season with the Broncos, but he became disgruntled and wanted a trade after learning Denver was considering a deal for quarterback Matt Cassel."

In the report, ESPN says "the Broncos have informed all interested teams that they want at least two first-round picks for Cutler and getting a quarterback in exchange is not a necessity,""
