Did You Know?
7/29/2009 9:36:00 AM

The Packers don't have a legitimate 1-2 punch. Ryan Grant had 78.5% of the carries by running backs after taking over in Week 7 of 2007, then an even greater proportion (83.4%) last year.  Source: jsonline.com

Packers RB Ryan Grant struggles as receiver
7/29/2009 9:29:00 AM

The Packers consider Ryan Grant a solid pass blocker. As a receiver, he's somewhat unsure of himself on routes, even check-downs, and fights the ball at times. Of the NFL's top 23 running backs in yards gained from scrimmage last season, only Brandon Jacobs (36) and Michael Turner (41) had fewer receiving yards than Grant (116). Officially, Grant has been charged with seven fumbles (six lost), but two fumbles (one lost) that were charged to Brett Favre in 2007 really were Grant's fault.  Source: jsonline.com

Pack expecting big season out of Ryan Grant
7/28/2009 5:17:00 PM

Grant has had a full offseason in the team’s workout program, both in the weight room and on the practice field. He’s repeatedly proclaimed himself to be at full health. And at age 26, he should be at his peak. “You put a lot of stock in practice and teamwork and chemistry and 11 pieces of the puzzle working together,” Philbin said (Packers offensive coordinator). “You’ve got to believe it will pay dividends for him or else we wouldn’t be out here (in the offseason). So we’re expecting big things.”  Source: greenbaypressgazette.com

Lombardi: I expect the ‘07 Grant to return
7/8/2009 9:39:00 AM

For me, Grant is the critical piece separating the Packer offense from very good and great. He had the classic “get paid” year last season, which means he was more worried about getting paid in the offseason than working hard to prepare for the season. He did have over 1,200 yards, but he averaged slightly below 4.0 per carry as opposed to ‘07, when he averaged above 5.0. I realize the injuries on the offensive line had something to do with his lack of big-play production, as it affected all the Packers. But this year, I expect the ‘07 Grant to return -- the player who was explosive in the spread set, made big plays and made people miss tackles.  Source: nationalfootballpost.com
