Saints RB Pierre Thomas signs one-year tender

New Orleans Saints tailback Pierre Thomas announced via Twitter that he has signed his one-year, $1.684 million tender offer, though he is still hoping to work out a long-term deal before the start of training camp. "I'm back for another year Saints fans! signed my tender today...hopefully we can get a long term deal done before the season," wrote Thomas, who had been holding out from the Saints' OTAs the last three weeks while hoping to get a long-term deal done.

With Mike Bell now officially an Eagle, Pierre Thomas is in line to receive the bulk of the carries at tailback for the Saints. In 2009 Thomas finished as the 19th most productive fantasy RB.

Saints Coach Sean Payton said tailback Pierre Thomas did not participate in team drills Thursday. The official injury designations will come Friday, but he is looking extremely doubtful at this point. Thomas was dressed for practice for the first time Thursday, but he was limited to individual work.

Saints running back Pierre Thomas did not participate in Wednesday's practice, indicating he remains questionable at best for Sunday's season opener against the Detroit Lions. Thomas, who continues to rehab his sprained right knee, was seen riding the stationary bike during the media's 30-minute access to practice.

Pierre Thomas' may be a scratch for opener

The bigger concern is still the right knee sprain Thomas suffered two weeks ago at Houston. Thomas' knee was wrapped as he escaped the locker room and he appeared to still be limping. We'll find out if he's ready to go when the Saints hit the practice field Wednesday, but chances are looking slim at this point. (Thomas also needed stiches today from an undisclosed" laceration.)
