Their running backs don’t get much national publicity but the Cincinnati Bengals might have the best one-two-three backfield punch in the NFL this season. Lewis: Benson will start Sunday Ever since Cedric Benson was sidelined with a hip flexor injury, the Bengals and coach Marvin Lewis have said that the fifth-year running back will be the main back when he returns. After Sunday’s 16-7 win over Cleveland, where Larry Johnson became the third different back this season to run for 100 yards, Lewis reiterated that again and also said that Benson will be back for this week’s game against Detroit. via Cincinnati.com

Cedric Benson suffors a hip flexor injury

Bengals rushing leader Cedric Benson was pulled during the second quarter of Sunday's game against Pittsburgh with an unspecified hip injury, returned for one series, then left the game. After Benson was treated at halftime, the Bengals said he was not expected to return to the game. Benson was replaced by Bernard Scott in the second quarter during a drive in which Cincinnati went three and out, not long after Scott scored on a 96-yard kickoff return. Benson came back for the next series just before halftime.  Source: ap

Last week with 120 yards on 27 carries, Bengals RB Cedric Benson became the first player to rush for 100 yards against the Ravens in 40 games, while his teammates held the Ravens to 82 yards on 18 carries.   Source: nfl

Now that unwanted pressure has been lifted off Cedric Benson mentally and he is preparing himself for the physical grind. Bottom line he's looking to make his mark with the Bengals. "No doubt, I'm ready to carry this team on my back," Benson said. "I'm due, hungry for it, miss it, and excited. It's good to be on a team that wants you. Ex-Bears RB Benson a free agent

The deadline for teams to claim Benson off waivers passed Thursday with none of the 31 other NFL teams interested in picking up the final two years of Benson's contract, a league source confirmed. Clearing waivers gives Benson the chance to sign with any team in the league, but that might be difficult to do with pending legal troubles that might lead to league discipline.  Source: chicagotribune.com

Cedric Benson sent home from OTA

Cedric Benson showed up for work this morning at Halas Hall and was told to go home by coach Lovie Smith. General manager Jerry Angelo said the team would have something to ``later when he walked off the practice fields following the OTA. Asked if he meant sometime today, Angelo said, ``In all likelihood. It's unclear whether this means the team plans to release the embattled Benson.  Source: suntimes.com

Cedric Benson charged with drunk driving

Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson allegedly blew a red light shortly after 3 a.m. this morning in Austin, Texas and was arrested and charged with drunk driving, police said. This is Bensons second alcohol-related arrest in just over a month. Officers performed field sobriety tests on Benson and based on his poor performance, they arrested him for driving while intoxicated.  Source: suntimes.com

Quelling growing concerns among fans and media over his whereabouts, Cedric Benson returned Tuesday to Halas Hall to take part in the second day of organized team activities after being absent Monday.
